Regency Period covers the genuinely-historical wardrobe of the British Regency (1811–1820) and the wider Georgian decade either side, as worn by Jane Austen, the dandies of Brummell's London and the sitters in Lawrence's portraits. Women's dress is dominated by the empire silhouette — high waist directly under the bust, narrow column skirt, in white or pastel muslin or silk, finished with spencer jackets, pelisse coats, reticule bags, kid gloves and bonnets. Men's dress is sharply tailored: high-collared coats with rolled lapels, cutaway tail-coats, breeches or pantaloons, Hessian or top boots, top hats and intricately tied cravats. The aesthetic is sustained today by Jane Austen Society events, Regency reenactor communities, historical-costuming TikTok and the Bath Festival. It is the broader, historically-accurate cousin of Regencycore, which is specifically the Bridgerton-flavoured TikTok fantasy.
